David Shirah, 1950-2008-Eternity

I have been crucified with Christ and no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave himself for me. Gal 2:20

"Big Dave" (that's what I called him!) was a man transformed by God.

A fighter in his younger years, he realized he was made in the image of a God who is a warrior. Dave became a new kind of fighter-a warrior-for the King of Kings. Dave became dangerous for good.

I don't know all the details but I wanted you to know that Dave left this Earth yesterday and jumped into the other side of eternity.

Please lift up his family and wife Robin. Pray that his memorial service Friday will glorify God in an awesome way. Join us if you can at 11 a.m. ~ Steele Creek Church, this Friday, December 26.

To those of us who knew Dave, we say, "Thank you, Lord" for blessing us with this great brother who encouraged us and walked with us.

12/26/2008 I'm not much of a poet but this came into my heart this morning~John

My Friend Dave - by John Ellis

When I die, please do not cry.

Please do not weep or wale or sigh.

For I was fortunate to have lived on this great earth a free man.

Put on your party clothes and your dancing shoes.

Smile and shout hooray!

For I journey to the great halls of my Lord's house to celebrate my birthday!

The Lord has called me home.

Friday, 12/26/2008 UPDATE: Wow! What a memorial service. A crowd of folks turned out at Steele Creek Church to hear about David Shirah, his past, his present and his future. It was clear that many of the guys he partied hard with over the last forty years have been touched-as David was-by the grace of God. I'm sure others are searching. I know we are all on a journey. The service was a great testimony to what Jesus did in David's life and to a God that longs for all of us to come into His glorious light.
