Merry Christmas my Band of Brothers

Merry Christmas to you ALL….

Let him take hold of my strength, [that] he may make peace with me; [and] he shall make peace with me.

I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. --[There is] no peace, says the LORD, unto the wicked.

In Christ Jesus you who sometimes were far off are made near by the blood of Christ. For He (Jesus) is our peace.

It pleased [the Father] that in him should all fullness dwell; and, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself. -- Christ Jesus: whom God has set forth [to be] a propitiation (absolute substitute) through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, . . . that he might be just, and the justifier of him who believes in Jesus. -- If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

You - trust in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH [is] everlasting strength.

David Shirah, 1950-2008-Eternity

I have been crucified with Christ and no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave himself for me. Gal 2:20

"Big Dave" (that's what I called him!) was a man transformed by God.

A fighter in his younger years, he realized he was made in the image of a God who is a warrior. Dave became a new kind of fighter-a warrior-for the King of Kings. Dave became dangerous for good.

I don't know all the details but I wanted you to know that Dave left this Earth yesterday and jumped into the other side of eternity.

Please lift up his family and wife Robin. Pray that his memorial service Friday will glorify God in an awesome way. Join us if you can at 11 a.m. ~ Steele Creek Church, this Friday, December 26.

To those of us who knew Dave, we say, "Thank you, Lord" for blessing us with this great brother who encouraged us and walked with us.

~submitted by H. Maxwell on behalf of many together.

Friday, 12/26/2008 UPDATE: Wow! What a memorial service. A crowd of folks turned out at Steele Creek Church to hear about David Shirah, his past, his present and his future. It was clear that many of the guys he partied hard with over the last forty years have been touched-as David was-by the grace of God. I'm sure others are searching. I know we are all on a journey. The service was a great testimony to what Jesus did in David's life and to a God that longs for all of us to come into His glorious light.

My Sword

Men,

Its truly an honor to be in your band.

The gift of the sword has in parted to me an overwhelming feeling of gratitude which can only symbolize the love of the Father for us. My present feeling is a mere epiphany of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Please allow me the privilege to wield it well by continuing to pray for us all.

My heart is filled appreciation of knowing the Father God made us Warrior-Kings for His Glory.

Our call is to not leave one man behind. Let us move forward with Wild Goose as our guide.

I must tell this awesome story.

This Tuesday Night - Women! God what were you thinking?

Brethren;

-We approach Tuesday Night with fear and trembling….and hope!

Several of us (it will take a squad!) will be leading the exploration of THE BEAUTY.

-What she desires.

-How God has made us to relate her.

-Why the Man & Woman thing gets so MESSED up.

-How we can move into her life with strength.

This is a particularly crucial issue with most of us…which leads us to believe there is an enemy that will throw some things at you to keep you from joining us.

Look forward to being with you….Kevin, Haines & Crew

7:00 p.m. – 9 p.m. at the barn

5:30-ish til 6:44 @ Showmars for pre-Barn Meal.

Reminder: BRING A CHAIR to the barn if you're able.

The mojo is already rolling for a large group from our area to be a part of the TOP GUN 2009 retreat…Click Here for promo with Michael Thompson and crew.

Upcoming Discipleship Classes - December 5-6

Hello fellow Steele Creekers,

I want to make special invitation for you to attend the upcoming Discipleship Classes.
Charlie Crowley and I are interested in taking the class for studying the Word.
David Long is an excellent teacher and the Lord is leading me to do inductive studies of the Bible.

With the recent events one might consider the class called Oneness.

Please pray with me for those taking the D-1 class.

Kind Regards,

Fwd: FW: God's Wild Men at The Barn

Men...

I hope that you are finding yourself walking in strength, drawing closer to the Father, and asking His guidance as you walk in your true identity (exactly who He created you to be).

Last week we had an awesome time of fellowship as we enjoyed the cookout, campfire, and a provoking movie with a great story...

This week we press on into the second half of the series with "A Battle to Fight"! We are excited to have our allies from New Wilderness Adventures "on point" for this weeks formation.

If you have missed the last couple of weeks, you will not want to miss this weeks gathering!

Remember...the enemy comes to steal kill, and destroy...his tactics include discouragement, accusation, shame, distractions and anything else that would keep you from engaging!

Here is what is coming up for "the home stretch" of the series at "The Barn"

Tuesday, Nov 25 – Mark Folk and his team from New Wilderness Adventures (based in Shelby http://newwildernessadventures.com/) will be sharing about "The Battle"

Tuesday, Dec 2 – Michael Thompson from Zoweh Ministries (www.zoweh.com) from Durham/Chapel Hill) will be leading us through a session on The Adventure that God has called us to be a part of.

Tuesday, Dec 9 – Local talent will lead us through some thoughts on The Beauty. No elaboration – come at your own risk.

Greetings Men!

Yes we will be meeting Tuesday Night!...Go Vote and come on out!!

I hope that you have all had a great week and that you are fighting the Good Fight!

Last week we ventured into what was probably "uncharted territory" for many of you as we tried to discover those areas in our lives where we are hiding…or "posing". I hope that you have asked of The Father to reveal those places in your life as you Walk with God...and. if you think that you are not Posing in some way…well…we will see…

This week….The wound…..we must recognize and deal with the poser! We must also go to the wound! A wound that can't be touched, is a wound that is not healed….The enemy does not want you at the barn this week!..You must be intentional and press on.

Now , for a couple of reminders and updates…

1) Read up Through Chapters 4 and 5 in "Wild at Heart"!

2) If you have the field manual, work your way through a few of the questions regarding "The Poser"…If you don't have a field manual, see the PDF file attachment to this email and work through a couple of the questions there.

3) Men…This is our third week. I hope the small groups are working well for you…It is such an encouragement to see you, and hear how you are getting together with each other…even one on ones. This will bare much fruit in your lives as you continue to walk in restoration and Life! ENGAGE!! Let nothing stand in the way of you doing what you can to walk in your true identity and strength with other men!

this week we have closed any additional participation during this series. This will become very important as we spend more time together in our formation and Individual Platoons. If you know of someone who would like to attend at a later date, there will be other initiatives starting plus we have several allies that may be starting a series that we can plug them in to!

Men! Stick with this…Do not let the enemy take you out…He will try (If he hasn't made an attempt already)

If you have questions feel free to call me at 704-xxx-xxxx

Wild at Heart - Session Three Questions

Session
Three – The Wound

I need to clarify three things when it comes to finding our “wounds”

First, it is not necessarily one clear wound, given on an unforgettable day you remember in detail. Many men can recall the day they received a soul-wound from their father that somehow defined the rest of their relationship with him. But for others, it is an accumulation of subtle wounds and messages give over time. Second, I believe that every man carries a wound(s). No matter how good a man your father was, and may still be, he is not Jesus Christ. Every father is a son of Adam, and every father himself grew up on a world
far from Eden. Given these two Biblical truths, be very, very cautious to come to the conclusion that you somehow escaped the father-wound. Your father may have repented deeply of his own false self as a young man, and been substantially healed of his own wound before he fathered you. But that is a rare, rare case. Finally, you have been born into a world at war. A war over the souls of men. The enemy desires to steal, kill and destroy - YOU. It is highly unlikely that he has not been successful in wounding your soul at some point in your life. Do not dismiss the assault of the enemy as you identify your wounds.

  1. What is/are your wound(s)? Can you put words to it? Do you remember how
it was given, the way it came?

  1. And what was the message of the wound – or the series of wounds? What did it say to you about yourself?

  1. What agreements have you made about who you are – in essence saying “This is the way I am”? Have you ever considered deeply why you are “this way?”

  1. Can you remember making a sort of vow when you were younger – maybe after being wounded? What was the vow?

  1. What did you father “name” you – what identity did he bestow on you as a boy and young man?

  1. Some wounds originate due to absence – physical, emotional, spiritual. “Not receiving a blessing from your father is an injury. Not seeing your father when you are small, never being with him, having a remote father, a workaholic father, is an injury.” Did you receive a wound of this type?

  1. Do you live each day with a deep inner strength that comes from knowing you are a real man, that you have what it takes? Or are you a driven man, or a passive man? When did that feeling of drivenness or passivity set in? Did it originate during a certain period of life?

  1. Many men take their “question” to the woman and want her to validate them as men. For a passive man it may mean you need to stand up to your wife. For a violent man (including achievers) it means stop abusing her. Many men make the woman their adventure. How have you handled the woman in your life? What have you been seeking from her?

  1. What would you love to have heard from your father?

Car pooling and ride needed to the Retreat

We have several requests for rides and car pooling to the Retreat. For example, guys need rides from Huntersville, Matthews, Fort Mill and Jackson Park.

Here is my proposed plan:

  1. Connect with a Group Leader and chose a Pace Car with a driver.

  2. Here's some good choices for vehicles: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Indianapolis_500_pace_cars

  3. Pick a specific time for departure. Dinner starts a 6:30

  4. Pick a meeting place with safe parking. The church has cleared for use, preferably behind small tent. That parking lot is near the cell tower in the back.

  5. Please reply to me with your plans quickly. I will coordinate the requests and direct them to you as needed. Tell who is your group's point of contact with cell numbers.

Tuesday Night Men's meeting at the Barn: Oct 28, 2008

Greetings Men!

I hope that you have all had a great week and that you are fighting the Good Fight!

It is so exciting to see the hunger of the men that long to get their hearts back, find their place in the battle, and do so within a "Band of Brothers"!!

Last week we launched our Fall Initiative at "the barn" and had the largest group of men we've ever had. We appreciate you hanging in there as we endeavor to follow the Holy Spirit and make adjustments.

I just wanted to send out a couple of reminders and updates…

1) Read up Through Chapter 3 in "Wild at Heart"!

2) If you have the field manual, work your way through a few of the questions regarding "The Poser"…If you don't have a field manual, see the PDF file attachment to this email and work through a couple of the questions there.

3) Please bring a chair if you have one!! This will help us in the large Formation as well as the Platoon Breakouts!

4) I am going to order "Wild at Heart Field Manuals" this week…The cost will be $11.50 each… It looked like at least two dozen men needed them by show of hands last week…Their will be an request sheet for you to sign this week if you want one…please bring cash or check this week (if cash, please bring correct change) Checks can be made out to Kevin Casner and I'll give you a receipt and make one big order.

5) Reminder…we are requesting a one time facility use fee of $20.00 each, for the entire 8 to 9 week series. This will help pay some utilities, provide water and misc. supplies for us to use at the Barn…If you cannot afford the $20.00, please see me personally…WE WANT YOU HERE! You may also bring a few dollars each time if it works better. There will be a Basket for this near the sign up sheet and "Prayer Request" Ammo Box

6) Prayer Request…We have an "Ammo Box" for Prayer request…Cards and pen are located on the same location…Your request will be prayed for!

7) We have a couple of Brave young men who are students at Morningstar who want to come to this, but do not have transportation! If you live in/near or drive by the Regent Park area and can help these guys out...Please give me a call at 704-xxx-xxxx or email me at kcasner@

After this week we will close any additional participation during this series. This will become very important as we spend more time together in our formation and Individual Platoons. If you know of someone who would like to attend at a later date, there will be other initiatives starting plus we have several allies that may be starting a series that we can plug them in to!

Fwd: New Stuff goin' on at THe Barn

Brothers…….I'd like to encourage you to join us at the Barn the next number of Tuesdays (starting tomorrow night) for a Wild at Heart series inspired by John Eldredge, Erwin McManus (The Barbarian Way) and others. A number of guys (including guest appearances from some great men from afar – Shelby to Durham to D.C.) will be helping to lead this journey into a deeper understanding of the warrior hearts that God has given each of us.

7 p.m. til 9 p.m. at The Barn on Tuesday nights

5:30-6:45 the Food Crew will be dining at Showmars ~ 521 & SC 160

This book (Wild at Heart) and this video series has had more impact on my spiritual walk than any other thing I've ever done.

My prayer is that it would impact you as well and that you would spread it to other men in the future.

If you're not able to attend, we covet your prayers. God is stirring up a BUNCH of men in the region and it's clear to me that whatever the Lord calls and ordains…the enemy fiercely opposes.

Fighting together in the battle.

Starting Tuesday, October 21st from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Starting Tuesday, October 21st from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, and for the next 8 to 10 weeks every Tuesday, we will embark on a journey to Discover and awaken your heart. We will be utilizing material from the book "Wild at Heart" by John Eldredge.

I am very excited about this Fall's series. We anticipate having participation from several of our allies in the facilitation of this series, including men from "Men of Steele", Mission Uprising, New Wilderness Adventures, Zoweh Ministries, as well as other alumni of the "Barn Militia"

"For that which draws us to the heart of God, is that which often first lifts our own hearts above the mundane, awakens a longing and desire. And it is that life, my brothers, the life of your Heart that God is most keenly after"....from "The Way of the Wild Heart"

Does this statement stir anything within you...within your Heart...? Why... What is "That"? "To rescue men, to see them restored by Christ and released for God's kingdom, is the most desperate need of this hour". (John Eldredge)

Eastern Front Allies summary - Oct 9th

What a great time yesterday's call was for my heart and for the life I desire--- Connected to God and Connected to Others.

Thanks to all who could make it. Here is a recap of our time...

1. What a great story about Captain Bll Eckerd and his WWII experience as well as his journey to a reunion of the 100th infantry division taking him by the Barn and Haines and Kevin and Bill's son Robin. A heart changed... yours and Capt. Bills. That is a great story. Thanks for reminding us all of the power of God and this message to come after us.

2. Remembering what happened to you. Weve all heard John and the RH team talk about the thief coming to steal, though that can happen and does, often we just file the good stuff away and don't return to it. I was struck by this a couple of weeks ago and wanted to start our time with that inviting question: So, What happened to you? God has brought us all so far from where we were that a couple of minutes on the phone obviously wont do it justice but some time with Him or another man reflecting on it will do your heart good, I'm sure of it!

3. Men on a Mission

Jeff Andrecyn and his team from Charlottesville are speakers at a men's retreat in Columbia... Carrying this message in four sessions this weekend as well as inviting these men to more at TOP GUN in March 09.

Haines, Kevin, Dan, Ernie and the Band from Charlotte are doing the Men of Steele (Steel Creek Church) men's retreat next weekend

Tad Fisher and Mark Leinberger in Richmond, Roanoke and Salem are taking their squadron into a mission for the hearts of men at their churches men's retreat in a couple of weeks.

Rob Loghery in Philly area is taking a men's Boot Camp to the Methodist churches in Nov in his area and at a Methodist Camp in the Pocono's.

Kevin Keifer from DC is taking 12 men in his foxhole to Nagshead (the beach) to go deeper in their friendships and relationships. Sharing their stories and finding more clarity in their lives.

The Zoweh team Durham/Chapel Hill is offering a couples weekend Oct 24-26. A getaway for us (the couples of the eastern front) to enjoy getting to know one another from the Eastern Front. There is still room for 3 couples.

Mark Folk and his team at New Wilderness Adventures is having their Golf event fundraiser coming up

4. Some Encouraging Words we ended on...

Rent Mr. Holland's Opus

The Gospel is not about Relief but Restoration

We are not settlers but pilgrims who travel lightly and with great purpose.

We (the allies of the Eastern Front) are changed men and therefore Compelled to do what we do... offer Life and Freedom to others while seeking it and living it ourselves.

There are no short cuts, just ordained delays.

Get Gary's Calling CD, the one entitled - Unveiling Your Purpose

5. This is a definition that Gary shared in West Virginia regarding Military Special Ops...

Special Ops: Operations conducted by specially organized, trained, forces to achieve military, political, economic, or informational objectives by unconventional means in hostile, denied, or politically sensitive areas. (behind enemy lines)

Thats Us!!!

6. TOP GUN March 09. Attached is the flier and poster for the event. We need your help going after the hearts of men and want you to consider roles on I-Team, Work Crew, Free Time fun and even a free time workshop or two. Feel free to change the bottom of the poster and put your name and contact info . Leave the registration info there at the bottom. A dvd promo highlight is coming for you to share, paint the picture.

Kevin,

Hey,

This is Mark Rodenhauser, I just started attending the Wild At Heart Men's night at the Barn. I am also in ministry and I teach the gospel through horsemanship. I will be teaching a neat Unbridled Round Pen Devotion at a friends ranch this Saturday, it's called "His Barn" and it is just down the road from the barn where we meet. It's just off of Possum Hollow and 521. Anyway, I was wondering if you would like to let the men and their families know about the fall Festival I'll be doing my presentation at. I didn't want to send this to all the men on the list without asking you first.

Anyway, here is the link to the "HIs Barn" website www.hisbarn.com and a link to my ministry website if you would like to know more about me and the ministry God has through us.

Below is an invitation I have sent out to my mailing list, if you would like you can forward it on to the men please feel free, or if you would like me to do so I can take care of it as well, just let me know so I can keep an eye out for some of the men!

Thanks!

Unbridled in Christ,

SAVE the DATE! Friday & Saturday, November 7th-8th. This year's Men's Retreat will again take place at White Oak Conference Center. Keep an eye out for sign up info in the SCCC lobby and in the bulletin. Help us spread the word...recruit 4-5 guys that need to get more connected with the body and with other men (that could be all of us).
SPREAD the Word! A group of Steele Creek folks are spearheading the Projecting Hope Film Festival to be held at the Ayrsley Cinemas (around the corner from the Big Tent Church) October 3rd-5th. FIREPROOF (the new powerful film by the Facing the Giants folks), the new Billy Graham film, Amazing Grace, a couple of Veggie Tales, The List, and more positive films will be shown for FREE on the Big Screen. Please click on this link for more info and forward it to all your Jesus friends! Thanks for helping us spread the word.
MEN in a BARN! Every Tuesday night at 7 p.m., God's men-representing over a dozen men in barnchurches-are meeting in the second story of a BARN for fellowship, prayer, encouragement and occasional teaching. Click Barn link for details and directions. A hungry group meets at 5:30-ish at the Showmars on 521 south of Ballantyne at the intersection of HWY 160 that goes into Fort Mill for a pre-barn meal. Barn is a few miles south of there...around the corner from Indianland High School. All men from I've-got-it-all-together to I'm-really-messed-up-and-I-REALLY-don't-understand-women are welcome.

Gentleman….most of you have heard me mention the Projecting Hope Film Festival to be held in Charlotte…October 3-5th.

THIS COMING Monday September 8th….FIREPROOF – the headline movie of the festival – put out by the Facing the Giants folks- will be shown at the Stonecrest theaters off Rea/485 at 7 p.m.

This is a powerful movie that, I believe, has the potential to greatly impact marriage in our community and in our country. http://www.fireproofthemovie.com/

I have some tickets to the screening Monday night….if any of you would like to attend, shoot me an email and I'll put your name(s) on the entry list that will be at the door to the screening. Best to arrive early…91.9 is hosting the event and has given out most of the tickets.

LET ME KNOW by the end of Thursday, if possible, if you'd like to attend the screening Monday night.

In His Service….Haines Maxwellwww.projectinghope08.blogspot.com will keep you updated on the October event. Thanks for spreading the word on this event.

P.S. I'll bet some of you NEED a Date Night…..great opportunity….did you get the FREE ticket part?

Barn Update

Men of Heart,

Greetings to you all and hopes that this finds you fighting the good fight!! I wanted to send out a reminder that we are getting together Tuesday night, 8/26, from 7:00 – 9:00pm at the Barn for our second Trail Marker event.

As a reminder, a Trail Marker is a time for us to gather together along this shared journey we are on and re-set our bearings, establish our "true North" again, and share fellowship. A chance to come together along the way and be among brothers. Too often, the amount of time between "series or retreats" is too great and we lose our way. The Trail Markers are intended to keep us going down the path in the right direction.

Dan gave a great message last month on the Matrix and how we are to view the "world". I hope that you have been able to apply some of what he talked about.

This next session will be one you won't want to miss as we discuss Band's of Brother's and living in community with others. This battle we were born into is not one that we are supposed to experience alone.

"The result of having abandoned masculine initiation is a world of unfinished, uninitiated men. But it doesn't have to be this way. We needn't wander in a fog. We don't have to live alone, striving, sulking, uncertain, angry. We don't have to figure life out for ourselves. There is another way. Wherever we are in our journey, our initiation can begin in earnest."

John Eldredge, "Way of the Wild Heart

I look forward to seeing you all in a couple of weeks. Bring a friend. Bring a brother.

Strength and Honor,

Scott
